FAMILIARS Lighthouse Arts, Brighton. 7th-20th September 2015, 11am-5pm.

FAMILIARS is an immersive installation that materialises the presence, function, and fragility of the unseen logistical infrastructures which underpin the modern world, yet are often coded as separate to society.

Exploiting Brighton’s presence and location in this infrastructure, the piece creates a mappable representation by directly intercepting logistical signals broadcast locally by air, sea, and train cargo transport and transmuting the raw data into ambisonics and projected visualisations. These facets invite exploration by the audience, creating intimacy and familiarity with a system that is designed to be invisible, and only noticed when it malfunctions or fails.

Pinba¶

Pinba is a MySQL storage engine that acts as a realtime monitoring/statistics server for PHP using MySQL as a read-only interface.

It accumulates and processes data sent over UDP by multiple PHP processes and displays statistics in a nice human-readable form of simple “reports”, also providing read-only interface to the raw data in order to make possible generation of more sophisticated reports and stats.
